Sam Meredith is a composer and musician based in London.

Sam studied composition at the
Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating with first-class honours and completed his MA on Guildhall’s Opera-Making course in association with the Royal Opera House.

Biography

Sam Meredith (b.2002) is a composer, singer and instrumentalist from Wakefield, West Yorkshire. He studied composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Paul Whitmarsh, graduating with First Class honours before pursuing an MA in Opera-Making, also at the Guildhall, which he is currently studying for with Julian Philips and Julian Anderson. His studies have been generously supported by the Guildhall School Trust.

His harmonically rich work is often inspired by literature and poetry. In 2022, Sam was awarded joint First Prize in the AESS English Song Competition where his setting of a poem by Emily Dickinson was performed in the London Song Festival. Sam’s music has also been featured by the BBC and at the National Centre for Early Music. Recent projects include writing a piece on the theme of ‘Utopia’ which was commissioned by John Harle for the Bauhaus Festival in association with the companies of Ercol and Vidal Sassoon. In April 2024, Sam composed and produced the opera - An Image of Stars - in collabration with the librettist, Olivia Bell which was conducted by Antoine Veillerette. In 2025, he worked with writer Sophia Trewick to bring a new opera - Gef! - to life.
